Quantum Software Engineering Intern - Summer 2026

IonQ is seeking a Quantum Software Engineering Intern to join our Applications team for Summer 2026 in College Park, MD. You will work alongside quantum researchers and software engineers to build algorithms, compilers, and tooling that power IonQ's trapped-ion quantum computers. Projects may include circuit optimization, error mitigation techniques, benchmarking suites, integration with classical HPC pipelines, and prototyping applications in chemistry, optimization, or ML. You will contribute production-quality Python code, write unit tests, participate in design reviews, and present your work to the broader technical team. Qualifications: currently pursuing a BS/MS/PhD in Physics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Math, or related field graduating between Dec 2026 and Jun 2028; strong Python proficiency; coursework in quantum information, linear algebra, or quantum mechanics; familiarity with Qiskit, Cirq, or PennyLane a plus.
